چکیده

Spirulina maxima is known to be useful to man in virtually all aspects of life including health, food and cosmetics. In the present study, we set out to investigate how a combination of a set of parameters, namely temperature, light intensity, pH and agitation, affect maximum production of biomass, chlorophyll a and protein. Through manipulating environmental condition of the algal growth, one can modify the biomass production. In the present investigation the production of Spirulina maxima was optimized in terms of biomass and metabolites. The dry weight of Spirulina maxima was 0.73g/500ml and protein and Chlorophyll a content were 63.8% and 13.1mg/gm respectively at pH 9. At 5 Klux light intensity the dry weight of Spirulina maxima was 0.72g/500ml while protein content and Chlorophyll a were 64.2% and 9.5mg/gm respectively. Aeration is also very important factor for production of Spirulina. Continuous mixing of the culture medium is required to prevent cell sinking and thermal stratification to maintain the even nutrient distribution and to remove excess oxygen. In terms of aeration and

Optimization of light conditions by affecting the growth and production of C-Phycocyanin in Spirulina platensis microalgae

Spirulina microalgae are a rich source of protein and valuable biological compounds. One of the most important Spirulina microalgae pigments is phycocyanin. Phycocyanin is widely used in industries as a natural blue pigment and it’s also an effective antioxidant. In order to improve phycocyanin production as well as Spirulina growth, by autotrophic cultivation considering that autotrophic culti...

Variation of Spirulina maxima biomass production in different depths of urea-used culture medium

Fewer studies have assessed the outdoor cultivation of Spirulina maxima compared with S. platensis, although the protein content of S. maxima is higher than S. platensis. Spirulina growth medium requires an increased amount of NaHCO3, Na2CO3, and NaNO3, which increases the production cost. Therefore, the current study used a low-cost but high-efficiency biomass production medium (Medium M-19) a...

Optimization of Growth Conditions for Purification and Production of L-Asparaginase by Spirulina maxima

L-asparaginase (L-AsnA) is widely distributed among microorganisms and has important applications in medicine and in food technology sectors. Therefore, the ability of the production, purification, and characterization of AsnA from Spirulina maxima (SM) were tested. SM cultures grown in Zarrouk medium containing different N2 (in NaNO3 form) concentrations (1.25, 2.50, and 5.0 g/L) for 18 days c...
